Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Tour

Hop aboard Chesapeake Bay buyboats to hear captains' sea stories and learn the significance of the boats in history.

The Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Association is sailing into Historic Yorktown for their annual Buyboat Tour 2023 on September 16 & 17.

The historic buyboats will parade to the Riverwalk Landing's Piers on Saturday morning, and once docked, visitors will be able to hop on board for deck tours (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and hear stories about the captains' amazing sea adventures and the boats' historical significance.

The Chesapeake Bay Buyboat Association was formed in 2004 to preserve century old vessels and teach their history. Several boats are registered historical landmarks with some being nearly 100 years old, including the F. D. Crockett, which was built with nine whole tree trunks shaved down, fitted together, and pinned to form the hull right in York County in 1924. Her hull was built in Seaford and then taken across Chisman Creek to Dare's Smith Marine Railway for decks and Pilothouse.
