Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade

Saturday, December 1, 2018

If you’re ready to get into the holiday spirit, you’ll want to put this one on your calendar! Join us at the Yorktown Waterfront from 6-8 p.m. Pre-parade festivities start at 6 and include caroling around a beach bonfire, a musical performance by the Fifes & Drums of York Town, and complimentary hot cider.....

The boats will finish out the evening, as they make their way down the river in a dazzling show of lights that starts at 7 p.m. This annual event has been a community tradition for more than two decades, and brings neighbors together to celebrate the season. Some of the boats take almost 20 hours to decorate!

While the parade starts at 7, be sure to head down early to secure a parking spot,. You can grab dinner at one of the many restaurants or grab a quick bite from vendors set up on the Market Green. Centerstage Academy will kick off the festivities at 5:30 before the crowd gathers up and down the beach. In true community fashion, the Boy Scout Troop 123 of Seaford will be serving complimentary hot cider. As you sip your festive drink, you can enjoy performances from the Yorktown Chorale and Fifes & Drums of York Town. Both groups will play by the glow of a massive beach bonfire.

We know parking can be tricky for big events like this. You're encouraged to park at the York-Poquoson Courthouse, the County Administration Building, and the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center. From all points, it’s just a short walk down to the waterfront.

An extended, but modified, Trolley Route will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. the night of the Lighted Boat Parade, making stops at the above locations as well as the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown (where parking opens up at 5 p.m.), Victory Monument, and the intersection of Water and Read Streets. The trolley is temperate controlled and handicap-accessible.

As an added precaution, families are encouraged to bring flashlights to assist in navigation around town at night.

No rain dates are scheduled for the holiday weekend events.  In the event weather conditions pose a threat, please call the York County event weather hotline for the most current information at 757.890.3520. This event is sponsored by the Yorktown Lighted Boat Parade Committee and Towne Bank.
