Grace Church Veterans Day Ceremony

Sunday, November 11, 2018

After a Dedication of Flags, brief remarks commemorating the end of World War 1, prayers and playing of Taps in the church--join in the procession through the Historic Church Graveyard to replace American Flags on each of the 93 known graves of veterans. (A commemorative program listing all the known veterans with their brief biographies will be provided to each attendee.)

The cemetery is the eternal resting place of servicemembers from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Philippine Insurrection, World Wars 1 & 2, Korea, Cold War, and Vietnam. Following the procession to replace the flags, at 11 a.m., the historic church bell will toll as part of the national Tolling of Bells to honor those who served in the Great War. This special event is sponsored by the United States World War One Centennial Commission.

Grace Church parishioners, friends, and all visitors (especially veterans, military, and their families) are welcome to attend and participate. Brownies from Troop 1087, Williamsburg and Airmen from the 377th Logistics Readiness Squadron JB Langley Eustis are scheduled to assist in this program.

After the ceremony, you are invited to attend the Grace Church 11:20 a.m. service in the church and at 1 p.m., attend a presentation by Tim Smith at nearby York Hall. He will discuss York County's WW1 Veterans.
