Jamestown Settlement and the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown will offer special two-week admission September 2-17 during Homeschool Family Days, an annual opportunity for homeschooling families to explore 17th- and 18th-century Virginia history with a variety of educational experiences.
Homeschool students can discover the story of America’s beginnings with educational and engaging visits to both history museums administered by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, an educational agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Visitors can enjoy extensive indoor gallery exhibits and outdoor living-history areas, connecting with the stories of our shared history.
Tickets to Homeschool Family Days are $10 for students (K to Grade 12), $19 for adults and free for children under age 4, with unlimited admission to both museums for two weeks September 2-17. Tickets can be purchased online or in person at either museum.
A Homeschool Family Days ticket includes:
• Admission to Jamestown Settlement exhibition galleries, short films in immersive settings and outdoor living-history experiences in re-creations of Paspahegh Town, one of the three ships that sailed to Virginia in 1607 and an English fort.
• Admission to American Revolution Museum at Yorktown exhibition galleries, short films in immersive settings and outdoor living-history demonstrations in re-creations of a Continental Army encampment and Revolution-era farm.
• Access to education stations offering unique opportunities for families to interact with museum educators.
Homeschool Education Stations
Education stations at each museum will allow families to interact with educators as they explore a variety of historical topics and build skills for critical thinking, primary source analysis and an understanding of how historians use clues from the past to put together a historical narrative.
At Jamestown Settlement, education stations will help learners examine the role of archaeology in learning about the past, and how the growth of the English colony impacted people and the environment. Stations will be available September 6, 8, 11, 13 and 15 at 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, stations will examine world geography in the 18th century and its impact on trade of foodways. They also will explore how modern social media may have been used during the American Revolution. Stations will be available September 5, 7, 12, and 14 at 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
