"A Hymn to the Chesapeake" Performance
Sunday, October 9, 2022
The music in this play is original, and the words are dedicated to life on the Chesapeake written by Eastern Shore native Robert P. Arthur.
If you love the Chesapeake Bay, don't miss this performance!
“Hymn to the Chesapeake" opened at the Trawler Dinner Theater on the Eastern
Shore and has had more than 90 performances in Virginia and Maryland, as well as
performances in Washington, D.C., New York City, and St. Petersburg, Russia.
The musical play was adapted from the book "Hymn to the Chesapeake." The author
uses fragments of actual conversations, traditional melodies, and adapted lyrics from
traditional songs. He also uses the works of painters, photographers, and writers as
inspirations.
The play is much loved on the Eastern Shore. Among the accolades are: "The most evocative writing about the Chesapeake since Beautiful Swimmers." -- David
Poyer.
"A beautiful treasure and living keepsake of the Chesapeake Bay. Like no other, Arthur
takes us vividly back to the time, the places, with sights, sounds, smells, chills, and
warmth. Like magic, we are transported in time and space to the venues of the tales he
tells through lyrical poetry…" – Richard Williams, Goodreads
