National Farmers Market Week

Saturday, August 8, 2020

Do you know where your groceries come from—how your meat was processed or how your tomatoes were grown? If ever there was a reason to shop local, it’s when it comes to your family’s health. If ever there was a time to do it, it’s August 8 for National Farmers Market Week!

Visit Yorktown Market Days for a sensory experience like none other. Be enveloped in the smoky smell of barbecue and sweet aroma of kettle corn, carried by the breeze blowing in off the York River. Get lost in the vibrant colors of fresh produce as you stop to admire the farmers' selections of hot and sweet peppers. And admire the work of local artists.

There will be several fun and FREE children's activities at this special market. And we invite you to enjoy the music of Robbie Kerns and Clayton Ware, an acoustical duo, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There's no other farmers market like Yorktown! Come see why we are the GOLD winner of Best Farmers Market in all of Hampton Roads, by the readers of Coastal Virginia Magazine.

Customers who have not shopped the market this season will notice a few changes—some of which carry over from the drive-thru operations including required spacing between vendors and a setup to avoid congestion in typically high-traffic areas. Vendors and staff who are engaging with customers are required to wear face coverings. There will also be no open sampling of any foods, and live entertainment has been put on hold. Hand sanitizer stations will be set up as you enter as well as signs stating that no one with a fever or symptoms of COVID-19, or known exposure to a COVID-19 case in the prior 14 days, is permitted to shop the market.

Many vendors are continuing to offer pre-order, pre-payment, and pickup options (including both Allen’s Farm and Penn Farm), though it will be up to those individual businesses to communicate plans and to make arrangements with customers.

Due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic—all York County sponsored and partner community events are subject to postponement or cancellation. This includes changes to dates, times, and locations.
