Former Army Sentinel Presentation on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Sunday, November 10, 2019

Former Sentinel Terry Walker will talk about the history of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery and the Sentinels who guard it.

Sponsored by the York County Historical Committee, this special presentation will be given by Mr. Terry Walker, who served in 1978-79 as a Sentinel, or Tomb Guard as they are commonly known. His presentation will cover the history of how the Unknown Soldiers from different wars were selected and interred, allowing Americans to honor those who paid the ultimate price in combat but whose remains were not identifiable. Mr. Walker will also discuss how one becomes a Sentinel, the training involved, and the demanding requirements for receiving the Tomb Guard Badge.

Mr. Walker's presentation precedes the annual Yorktown Veterans Day Ceremony on Monday, November 11, at 12 p.m. at York Hall.
