Mother's Day Ideas

5 Ways to Pamper Your Mom in Historic Yorktown This Mother’s Day

Don’t freak out, but Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away! Have no fear, however, because we have a few suggestions on how to spoil your madre in Historic Yorktown on Sunday, May 14.

Food

1. Savor your time together at a restaurant.

Historic Yorktown is home to several quaint and cozy restaurants that your mother will find irresistible!

Riverwalk Restaurant is hosting a special Mother’s Day Buffet starting at 10 a.m. Mom will “fill” the love as she piles on food from the breakfast selection, traditional buffet, seafood bar, and carving station. Reservations are required, so be sure to call the restaurant at 757.875.1525 ASAP!

If Mom prefers something simpler like sandwiches, wraps, and soups, consider the Carrot Tree Kitchens and Mobjack Bay Coffee Roasters and Petit Café for a hearty lunch. Both offer a variety of soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches, as well as delicious hot and cold beverages.

There’s also the exotic option of taking Mom out for a raw experience! Umi Sushi provides fresh sushi, Korean dishes, and Asian alcoholic beverages.

Shopping

2. Shop for a gift she loves.

Mom may have said she doesn’t want anything, but you know better! Riverwalk Landing is home to several unique shops where you can pick up some subtle gift hints from your mother. If she is an avid reader or antique lover, check out the Yorktown Bookshop, which sells rare and gently used books, treasures, and collectibles. Visit Auntie M’s American Cottage for handcrafted art, jewelry, or stationery. Or drop by Patriot Tours and Provisions for some Yorktown swag, outdoor games, or even make a reservation for a future Segway or bike rental.

Art

3. Express your love through art.

Take your mom on a tour of two of the areas art galleries to see if any pieces resonate with her heart. The Gallery at York Hall features paintings, quilts, pottery, and stained glass from more than 300 local artists. On the Hill Gallery showcases original prints, jewelry, pottery, and sculptures, as well as acrylic, oil, and watercolor paintings.

Relaxation

4. Unwind at the beach.

Time is a gift, so bring your lawn chairs, towels, and sunscreen to lounge on Yorktown Beach. Listen to the waves, watch for sea life, or take a nap on the sand. You can also walk with Mom along the Riverwalk to enjoy the scenery, gossip along the way, and take pictures to memorialize your unforgettable day.

Dessert

5. Sweeten the day with a shake or sundae.

Finally, end the day on a sweet note by treating Mom to a sundae at Ben & Jerry’s. The shop has seven sundaes and shake options and over 20 unique flavors to choose from.
